Adobe Illustrator-The move tool

Ah yes the move tool! Although I'm not an expert on Adobe by no means, I felt like it would be good to share what I have experienced using their programs. Now although there are many tools in the Adobe programs as well as other design programs, this my friends, in my opinion, is the most powerful tool in the design field. Without it, you can't go anywhere. Sure you can come up with all the ideas that you want, but without being able to move ,your ideas will never be able to be put into action.
For those of you who still don't know what it is, it basically allows the person to move part of a design from one area to another. You can move to the left, the right, upwards, downwards, diagonal, basically wherever you want to go. Not only that but there is a keyboard combination that will allow me to do another feature. Now lets say for instance that I wanted to move the area I chose from the left to the right and wanted to make sure  I moved it in a straight path. If I hold shift+click and then move that selected area from the left to the right, then it will keep my path straight.

3 things I like about the move tool

  • Easy to use
  • Versatile
  • It moves stuff

This tool has been around for years and I still love it haha! It's so awesome that I had to find a video dedicated to it to help you see how epic it really is. Sometimes the best things in life, as far as careers go, are simple and this is a prime example of simple.

Breakfast and Logos

Normally what I do in the morning, is grab some breakfast, look at design tutorials, sit back thank God for another day, and let the creativity start flowing. I trained myself to get into the habit of trying to teach myself new skills and techniques everyday, without having someone to tell me to do it. Now back in school and college, it was tough. I still wasn't sure what I wanted to do in life so I had problems staying committed to it until I was completely sure that was what I wanted to do. Come to think about it, I hardly ate breakfast either haha. Anyways, having a good early morning routine, can tremendously help you out in the long run. Now one of the main tasks at hand for me today is that I have to work on a logo for a friend of mine who actually is a freelance chef. I don't know about you guys but whenever I have a good breakfast, it usually helps me get through the rest of the day and I actually feel better and more creative as well.  Some people drink coffee to get them through the morning, but for me, all I need is a few pancakes or waffles, eggs, hash browns( I love those things), some turkey bacon( had to cut back on the pork because of high blood pressure and stuff), a glass of juice, and I'm set for life! Who knows, I might just somehow incorporate my morning breakfast in my friend's logo too haha! See that's more creativity for you!

The late night design work talk

When it comes to rest, graphic designers need to get up from their computer every half hour for a break especially at night. There's nothing worse than going through eye strain and migraines when you have projects to finish for clients. Get up, grab a snack, drink some coffee, go to the bathroom, do something that doesn't involve looking at a computer monitor for a few minutes and then come back to your work. I experienced headaches and eye strain from time to time and one thing I have to say about it, is that I could never get used to it.

The consequences of sleep deprivation for graphic designers

  • Poor work
  • Bad work
  • Awful work
  • Horrible work
  • What in the world is this?!

Go ahead take your pick. Either way, your work is going to suffer when you don't have rest. If you are at a point where you keep bobbing your head up and down and you can't figure out why, turn off the computer before you bust your head on it and break it. That's all I have to say on that and right now I'm going to take my own advice and get some shut eye. Have a great night scratch starter's.
